Contentment is a very sought after thing.  What is contentment and what would bring you                           contentment?  Some would say, “more things.”  Some would say, “better relationships or                           even a change of spouses.”  Some would say, “if I had what they got”.  Some would say,                           “more money to spend or more money in the bank.”  Some if they were honest would say,                           “I am never contented, I am never satisfied.”

Are we ever content?  Proverbs 27:20, “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.”  It is part of our sinful nature to desire more, more, and more.  We want to say, “I know what God said, but I want to eat the forbidden fruit because I want more than just a mere garden of Eden and walking with God in the cool of the day.  A matter of fact I want to be like God.”

Contentment is a spiritual discipline.  Proverbs 14:14, “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from above.”  Hebrews 13:5-6, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for He has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. [6] So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my Helper, and I will not fear.  What can man do to me?”  It is a learned discipline.  Philip. 4:11, “Not that I speak in regard to need: for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.”  The Apostle Paul goes on to say in verse 13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  It is for certain that godliness when accompanied by contentment is great gain.

This learned spiritual discipline comes from being in and staying in the basics 101.  Get in the Word and love the Word (The Bible).  Cultivate your prayer life with the Lord Jesus.  And be committed to your relationship with the Lord Jesus.  Love what He loves.

Love “in Christ,”

Dear Fellow Christians
Well summer is officially started and it's going by fast. Before we
know it, it'll be time to start practicing for our Christmas. We're
going to have a choir retreat August 9 to get a head start on our
Christmas program. So be ready.
I want to thank Mrs. Kay and Amanda for putting the Amerikids program
together. The kids did an outstanding job. It was the best program
I've seen them do. I also want to thank Bro. Henry and Mrs. Melita for
doing all the hard work upstairs.
                                                                                 In Christ Alone,

                                                                                 Lewis Evans
